These maps show the percentage of the overseas born population by the number of years since arrival, for each territorial authority area and each Auckland local board area at the 2006 and 2013 cenuses. The data for each area sums to 100%. In each case, the deeper red/orange colours denote the higher percentages, the paler yellow/pink/white colours denote smaller percentages.
The impact of recent international migration to parts of the South Island is particularly noticeable on the 'less than five years since arrival' maps (compare these with ‘5 to 10 years’), while the '20 years or more since arrival' maps show greater impact for the lower half of the North Island. More generally, the slightly lower proportions '20 or more years since arrival' in 2013 than 2006 reflects an increase in the proportions in each other number of years. See for additional detail.
