These maps are based on the Census Usually Resident Population Count.

Period Maps: The contribution of natural change maps show the percentage of total net change for each area accounted for by natural increase (the difference between births and deaths). The contribution of net migration maps show the percentage of total net change for each area accounted for by net migration (internal and international combined).

Age Group Time-Series Maps: The contribution of natural change maps by age show the percentage of total net change for each age group accounted for by change in cohort size, for each area. The contribution of net migration maps show the percentage of total net change for each age group accounted for by net migration (internal and international combined), for each area.

The data have been annualised for each period. See for additional detail and methodological notes. Data to 2013 are drawn from the Royal Society Marsden project The ebbing of the human tide. What will it mean for the people? (project also known as Tai timu tangata. Taihoa e?) and converted for visualisation by the CaDDANZ Population Atlas research team. Data for the period 2013-2018 have been generated using the same methodology.
