The New Zealand Atlas of Population Change was developed as part of a broader research programme investigating the changing composition of New Zealand's population: Capturing the Diversity Dividend of Aotearoa/New Zealand (CaDDANZ) (funded by MBIE 2015-2021). The focus of the Atlas is the provision of maps illustrating New Zealand’s spatial diversity across a range of population change indicators. The underlying data were drawn from research projects which had used geo-coded census and vital registrations data. In this sense the New Zealand Atlas of Population Change differs from the thematic mapping of raw data by Statistics New Zealand and other organisations in that it is accompanied by supporting research, references to which follow the accompanying methodological notes for each output. The project has now ended, but its main objective - to assist New Zealand to better prepare for, respond to, and celebrate, an increasingly diverse population – remains active in the output available from these pages.
